Goyu

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A colorful woodblock print of a landscape titled "Goyu" by artist Ando Hiroshige. The scene depicts a riverbank with a large, bare tree in the center. Three people stand on the grassy riverbank, facing right: - a child wearing an orange garment - an adult in a brown robe holding the child - another adult wearing a green robe and holding an umbrella. In the background, there are green mountains, a blue river, and several trees. The sky fades from dark blue at the top to beige at the horizon. There are several Japanese characters written in black ink on the top left and right side of the image, and a vertical orange banner on the right side. The entire scene is framed by a thin black line.
