Illuminated Pages from a Dispersed DharanI Manuscript

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Two long, aged, off-white strips of paper with black writing and four colorful illustrations. The top strip has an illustration on the left of a blue figure with a halo, wearing an orange and blue outfit and sitting on a throne; and an illustration on the right of a blue figure with a halo, wearing a blue outfit, holding a staff and standing on a red circular background. The bottom strip has an illustration on the left of a figure with a halo, wearing an orange robe over a yellow outfit, sitting cross-legged on a blue and red background; and an illustration on the right of two figures, one yellow with a white halo and one white with a yellow halo, both sitting on thrones on a red background. The writing on both strips appears to be in a non-Latin script. The background behind the strips is dark red.
