The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Section of a Diptych in Linga Form, Interior Depicting Parvati, the Consort of Shiva by an unknown artist. The image shows a black and white photo of a dark stone sculpture. The sculpture is shaped like a thick, oblong egg with a flat base and an unevenly shaped piece of stone on the right side. The front of the egg has a face carved into it. The face has a long nose, small mouth, and eyes that are not fully detailed. The face wears a headdress that covers the top of the head and has a horizontal band across the forehead. The band has geometric patterns on it. The hair is carved as wavy lines on either side of the face. The headdress has a cylindrical protrusion that sticks out from the top of the head. The background of the image is gray and lightens toward the bottom.
