Torso of a Bodhisattva

Sahri-Bahlol Workshop

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Torso of a Bodhisattva by Sahri-Bahlol Workshop. The sculpture depicts a human torso with a headless, armless upper body and a lower body missing below the hips. The figure has a bare chest with defined nipples and a navel. Two straps or necklaces drape across the chest, and a series of small metal rings run down the center. A decorative cloth or fabric drapes over the left shoulder and wraps around the body. The fabric has folds and creases carved into it. The right side of the body is covered with similar folds of fabric. The entire sculpture appears to be made of stone or metal with a weathered appearance, with visible signs of aging and wear, including discoloration and rough texture. The background is a plain gray color.
