Mt. Nokogiri Seen from a Distance

Utagawa Hiroshige

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black and white woodblock print depicting a seascape. A large body of water fills the bottom half of the image. A mountain range is visible on the horizon. Two sailing ships are present; one closer to the viewer than the other. A slanted wooden structure protrudes from the right edge of the image towards the water. The structure appears to be a dock or a ramp. A small cluster of people stands on the water near the base of the structure. The print features a patterned border and is set against a larger, ornate frame. Japanese characters are visible on the right side of the print.
