Snuff Bottle with Scene of Dragon-Boat Festival

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The snuff bottle has a rounded, almost circular body with a short neck and an opening at the top. The rounded body is flat on one side and rounded on the other. The green stopper has an ovoid finial. The bottle features a scene painted on the rounded side. The scene depicts a boat with a dragon's head on the bow in the center of a river, with people on a bridge and on the riverbank. A long dragon curves around the bottom of the scene; flowers are painted on the bridge and riverbank. The background of the scene is primarily white, with pink and blue flowers and green foliage. The edges of the bottle are outlined in copper. The background of the image is dark gray at the top and light grey at the bottom.
