Snuff bottle with boy flying a bird

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image depicts a Chinese snuff bottle with a stopper on top. The snuff bottle is made of a reddish-orange material, possibly a type of stone or ceramic. The bottle is rectangular in shape with rounded edges and a flat bottom. It features a small, round stopper at the top. On the right side of the bottle, there is a carved figure of a boy flying a bird. The boy has short hair and is leaning forward as if he is running or jumping. He appears to be holding a string attached to the bird. The bird has outstretched wings. On the front of the bottle, there is another carving of an object which resembles a Chinese coin with a square hole in the center. At the bottom of the bottle, there is a carved figure of a dog or other animal. The background of the image is a gradient that transitions from black at the top to white at the bottom.
