Snuff Bottle with Antiquarian Design

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Snuff Bottle with Antiquarian Design by an unknown artist is a cobalt blue snuff bottle. The bottle has an oval body with a rounded, short neck and a flat, rounded lip. The stopper is made of a light-colored cork-like material. Two small, flat, rectangular handles are on either side of the body. The body has a raised, ornate design etched into it, featuring a symmetrical arrangement of lines and curved shapes resembling clouds or foliage. The background is a gray gradient that transitions from dark at the top to light at the bottom. The bottle casts a faint shadow on the surface below it. The surface the bottle is sitting on is white at the bottom and transitions to gray.
