Snuff bottle with theatrical scene

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The object is a white porcelain snuff bottle. The neck and body are decorated in underglaze blue. The stopper is orange. A band of key-fret runs around the mouth. A man on horseback with a spear is on one side and a man on a balcony overlooking a courtyard scene is on the other. The depiction seems to be a theatrical scene. A band of scrolls and foliage runs around the base. A line of blue scroll work runs below the key-fret and above the theatrical scene. The body of the bottle is roughly cylindrical with rounded shoulders.
