Buddha Maitreya (Mile) Altarpiece

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Buddha Maitreya (Mile) Altarpiece depicts a central figure of a seated Buddha-like individual with hands resting on knees. The figure sits on a platform supported by four legs. A large decorative element featuring multiple flame-like protrusions and a pointed top is behind the central figure. Two smaller standing figures are on either side, and several smaller figures are below. The entire piece appears to be made of gold and green metal.
