Suzuki Harunobu

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A Japanese woodblock print depicts two people in traditional clothing. The person on the left is a man wearing a brown top and white and gray striped bottoms. He holds an umbrella in both hands, bowing his head and body. The person on the right is a woman wearing a brown top and a kimono in shades of orange, gray and white. She is positioned on an orange mat next to a low black and beige platform. Both people have dark hair styled in traditional Japanese fashion. The background features a tree with cherry blossoms on the right and raindrops falling from the upper left corner. The raindrops are depicted in gray lines. The color of the background is beige at the top and transitions to green towards the bottom left. Japanese characters are written in black ink at the top and a red seal is in the bottom right corner.
