Autumn Grasses in Moonlight

Shibata Zeshin

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Two rectangular panels side by side, each divided into two sections. Top sections are gold with a textured appearance and feature a black silhouette of plants and grasses. The left panel's top section contains numerous small plants and flowers on the left side. The right panel's top section features a large plant with long thin leaves on the right side and a full moon behind it. Bottom sections are made of wood with a dark brown inlay design. The inlay design on each panel features curved lines that resemble vines or tendrils. The panels have a dark brown frame around the edges. The background behind the panels is white.
