Noh Mask: Kojo (Old Man)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Noh Mask: Kojo (Old Man) is a sculpture of a man's face. The face has a wide mouth with the lips curled down. There is a long, thin piece of wood carved to look like a goatee. The face has wrinkles around the eyes, on the forehead, and on the sides of the mouth. The eyebrows are carved and painted on, with the ends pointing down. The hair is carved and parted in the middle. There are two small metal pins on either side of the head. The background is black.
