Case (Inrō) with Design of Boats, Waves and Reeds (Tale of Genji)

Rectangular wooden case with rounded edges, made of dark brown wood with visible grain. Two metal boat inlays with black outlines on top, one on each half of the case, with mother-of-pearl inlays. The boats have flat bottoms and pointed tips. Reeds and grasses are etched around the boats. The case is divided into two equal parts horizontally. Two images are presented side-by-side. The background of each image is brown.
