Incense Box in Shape of Overlapped Chrysanthemums; The Chrysanthemum Youth (Inside Tray)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Two round, gold-colored containers with lids, made of metal, likely brass or bronze. The lids are decorated with flower-like patterns. The left lid has a flower-like design made of petal-like shapes. The right lid has a flower-like design with lines extending from the center. The sides of the containers have etched designs. The background is gray, with a darker shade at the top and a lighter shade at the bottom. The containers are positioned close together, with the right one slightly behind the left. The inside of the right tray features an etched image of a youth amongst chrysanthemums. The containers resemble an incense box.
