Water coupe with archaistic dragon roundels

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Dark-colored ceramic vessel with rounded body and short neck. The body is bulbous, curving outward then inward to form the base. A small, circular opening at the top. A design of a stylized dragon is etched on the front, within a roundel or medallion. The dragon has curled, serpentine body and appears to have five claws. The dragon's head is depicted facing outwards. The vessel has a glossy appearance with areas of darker and lighter shading suggesting a reflective surface. The background is light-colored and even.
