Water Jar (Mizusashi) in the Shape of a Bamboo Basket

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Brown and tan woven vessel with a rounded body, narrow top and flat lid. The woven pattern consists of a grid-like design made of thin strips of bamboo or wood. The lid is dark brown with a small circular indentation in the center. The vessel resembles a bamboo basket but appears to be made of ceramic or another material. The background is a plain off-white color.
