Two Scholars and Boy with Goose

Sun Rong

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A fan-shaped artwork depicting three people. The artwork is painted on a semi-circular, beige-colored fan with radiating lines giving the appearance of pleats. The fan is centered on a white background. Two older men wearing traditional-style long robes and hats stand on the right side; they are painted in gray and blue ink. Their robes have folds and appear to be made of textured material. The man on the left holds a staff; the man on the right holds a hat. On the left side of the fan, a boy in an orange robe holds a goose by the neck. The boy and goose are painted on a green ground. Black calligraphy and a red seal are at the top left of the fan. The fan has aged, with dark spots and lines on its surface.
