Large Situla

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Large Situla by Unknown Artist shows a large, bronze-colored vessel with a wide mouth and a narrow base. The vessel is roughly cylindrical in shape, but slightly wider at the top than at the bottom. Two short handles protrude from the sides, just below the rim. The surface is adorned with intricate etchings and patterns that are darker in some areas, suggesting age or wear. The background is a plain wall with a baseboard and a floor that appears to be covered in a thin layer of material, possibly dust or a protective covering. Small pieces of paper are on the floor in the foreground.
