Incense Box (Kōbako) with Scene from The Tale of Genji
Gold-colored, rounded square incense box with lid. The lid features an interior scene, a woman sitting on a tatami mat inside a traditional Japanese room with a shoji screen and a low table. The room opens to the outside through a veranda and sliding doors. The exterior of both pieces show a landscape scene with dark brown to black trees and hills against a gold background. The edges of the lid and box have a dark brown woven pattern. The background of the image is gray.
