Spring Rain Collection (Harusame shū), vol. 3: Sparrows and Dandelions

Teisai Hokuba

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image depicts a traditional Japanese-style artwork featuring two small brown birds and a dandelion. The dandelion has a long green stem and a large round head with thin lines radiating from the center, resembling a pom-pom. The dandelion is surrounded by green leaves and a few seed pods. Two small brown birds with white markings on their faces are positioned below the dandelion, one flying and one standing. The flying bird has its wings spread out, and both birds have their heads down, looking at something on the ground. There are also some green leaves and yellow flowers on the right side of the image. The background of the image is a light beige color. There are several lines of Japanese text written vertically on the right and left side of the image, and two red seals are present, one on the top left and one on the top right.
