Yōshū (Hashimoto) Chikanobu

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Triptych print with a Japanese-style room and figures. The room has a red tatami mat with white and pink designs. A green railing runs along the left and right panels. The left panel shows a man in a black kimono standing, with bare feet, looking back at two men standing behind him; one wears red pants and green top, the other a green top. The center panel depicts a low table with food, surrounded by three men in black military jackets with gold trim; one man sits at the table with his back to the viewer wearing a blue jacket. The right panel shows two men in military jackets sitting; one reclines on the floor with a white cloth over his lower body, while another sits upright. A third man lies on the floor behind them, with his head on a green chair. The background includes a wall with a large window and a screen with Japanese characters; a tree branch is visible outside. The artist's signature and a large white and blue design are also present.
