Chiyoda Castle (Album of Men)

Yōshū (Hashimoto) Chikanobu

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Tri-fold illustration of a crowded, indoor scene with people sitting on the floor. The figures are dressed in traditional Japanese clothing; men and women wearing kimonos in various colors and patterns including blue, gray, brown, and black. Some individuals hold items like fans and baskets. There are two low tables with objects on them. The background features a gradient from cream at the top to light blue towards the bottom. The scene includes a doorway with a partially visible figure standing in it. Characters' facial expressions and body language vary. The composition spans across three connected panels. Japanese characters are written vertically on the right side and horizontally in the bottom-right corner.
