The Actor Ichikawa Danjuro V, Attired in Voluminous Ceremonial Trousers (Nagabakama)

Katsukawa Shunshō 勝川春章

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image depicts a Japanese woodblock print of a man in traditional attire. The man has long black hair and wears a white kimono with a patterned design underneath a red kimono, and red wide-legged trousers called nagabakama. He holds a sword in his left hand and a striped staff or weapon in his right hand. The man's kimono is gathered at the waist with an obi, and a sword is sheathed at his side. Behind the man is a red and white striped fabric or curtain. The background of the print is gray, with a yellow section at the top, possibly representing a window or blinds. There is vertical black Japanese text on the left side of the print. The print has a beige border around the edges, with a white background behind it.
