The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Hafted Ax, type 9a, by unknown artist, is a greenish metal object with a wide, rounded end tapering to a narrower top. The object is teardrop shaped and lying on its side. A triangular groove or indentation runs from the narrower top toward the wider bottom. Three horizontal lines wrap around the narrower top. The object appears to be made of bronze or copper and has a weathered appearance. Green patina covers the surface. The object casts a faint shadow on a light gray background. One end of the object is rounded wider than the other.
