Box with Design of Pine, Bamboo, and Cherry Blossom

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Box with Design of Pine, Bamboo, and Cherry Blossom by Makuzu Kenpaku. The image shows a set of lacquerware boxes. The largest box is on the left; it is square and has an open top with a smaller square compartment inside; its sides and top have a brown base color with designs in gold and blue. The box on the right is rectangular and has a flat top with designs; it does not open. There are four small square boxes in front. The box second from the left has a lid; the one on the far right is solid; and the two in the middle are open. A small gold envelope is in front of the small boxes. The background fades from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom.
