Cricket cage

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Dark-colored, ceramic cricket cage by artist unknown. The cricket cage is bulbous, wider at the top than bottom. The top is circular and has a small, white rim; the lid is white ceramic with three circular indentations. The exterior surface features raised designs including a long vertical element with protrusions along its length, floral motifs on top and bottom bands, and scattered other raised elements. A thin metal stand with three legs holds the cricket cage. The object appears to taper to a point at the bottom.
