Piece

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The artwork titled "Piece" by an unknown artist depicts a long, narrow, vertically oriented piece of fabric or paper with a repeating pattern. The pattern features a black background with a gold geometric grid overlay. Within this grid, there are three large, symmetrical, flower-like motifs, evenly spaced and centered vertically. Each flower-like motif has a central circle surrounded by radiating petal-like shapes. Interspersed between and alongside these motifs are smaller, diamond-shaped or leaf-like patterns in shades of cream and brown. The edges of the patterned piece show signs of wear or distress, with some areas appearing frayed or faded. The patterned piece is set against a beige background, which appears to be a piece of cardboard or similar material. On the right side of the beige background, there is a vertical line of red text that reads "95.14.312".
