Piece

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A long rectangle of white paper with black Chinese calligraphy on the left and a gray strip of material on the right. The white rectangle runs vertically along the left side. The calligraphy consists of four vertical lines of characters written from top to bottom. There are two small holes on the white rectangle, a small circular hole and a longer irregular shape. The gray strip on the right appears metallic; it is bordered on the right and bottom by white. The gray strip has a thin gold square toward the top. The background is white with darker splotches throughout. Toward the bottom, a small white rectangle contains a series of numbers, 20.148.4. The title of the piece is "Piece" by the artist unknown.
