Masakiyo’s Challenging Battle, from Taiheiki (Chronicle of great peace)
Colorful Japanese woodblock print depicting a battle scene. The scene is viewed through the ribs and feathers of a large brown fan, fanned out to form semi-circle. The background of the print is dark brown with a swirling black wave pattern. Several warriors are shown on horseback and on foot, wearing samurai armor and brandishing swords and bows. Some of the warriors wear green, blue, and red armor. Several long banners and shorter flags are visible, some with Japanese characters. The print has a beige border around the edges.
