View of the Seafront in Yokohama (Yokohama Kagandori no fūkei)

Utagawa Hiroshige III

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Triptych print depicts a waterfront scene. A low stone wall runs horizontally across the center. On the near side, the water is dark blue. A small boat with a white sail on the left; a large brown ship with three masts on the right. A medium-sized ship with a black and white sail in the center. A small boat with people in front of the white-sailed boat. On the far side of the wall, people walk along a sidewalk in front of a row of buildings. The buildings are two stories, with dark roofs and light-colored walls. Some have balconies or awnings. Flags fly from some buildings. Trees with pink blossoms are on the sidewalk. A horse-drawn carriage is on the sidewalk. The sky fades from dark blue at the top to pink at the horizon. A small rectangular inset with a pink and blue scene is at the top center.
