Chopines

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Two white ceramic chopines with rust-colored soles. The chopines have a speckled surface and are missing parts of their upper sections. They have short, thick heels and are positioned at an angle to one another. The chopines are set against a grey background with a subtle shadow underneath. The toe box of each chopine features a hole where the big toe would go. The chopines appear to be 16th century European footwear. They are made by Pablo Picasso.
