Pelerine

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Pelerine by an unknown artist is a semi-transparent, off-white, neck covering with floral embroidery. The neck covering is shaped like a half-circle and lies flat with the curved bottom edge facing downwards. It has a thick band at the top which sticks out to either side. The band is approximately 2 inches wide and features a repeating stitch pattern along both long edges and across the top. The curved bottom section has a row of ruffles along the bottom edge, and a second row of ruffles higher up on the neck covering. The entire piece features white floral embroidery. The background of the image is black.
