This painting shows a woman seated in a slightly angled position towards the right, her head facing us with what appears to be a small smile. She has pale skin, rosy cheeks, and curly, gray-brown hair styled in voluminous curls, partly covered by a large, dark, broad-brimmed hat. The woman is dressed in a cream-colored gown with ruffled lace details at the neckline and cuffs. Her right arm rests on her lap, holding a folded piece of paper or a letter, while her left arm is placed on a surface to the right. The background has a warm reddish-brown town and appears to include a draped curtain. On the right side, there is a small red surface with more papers or letters, as well as a white-gray section that appears to show a cloudy sky.
