Giovanni Bentivoglio and Squire Riding Horses [reverse]

Sperandio

National Gallery of Art

This is a circular medallion or coin depicting a scene of a mounted knight. The knight, clad in armor and with a sword hanging from his waist, is riding a horse adorned with a saddle and a decorative covering. The horse and knight both face the left. Behind the knight, on the right side of the medallion, there appears to be another person on horseback holding a spear. Along the border is an inscription in uppercase letters. The sculpture is dark brown with areas of greenish patina. The medallion is flat and disc-shaped, with a small hole at the top.
