Leather-covered Walnut Armchair

Italian 16th Century

National Gallery of Art

This is a photograph of a vintage chair. The chair is composed of dark wood with a seat and backrest upholstered in rich, brown leather that has a textured ornamental pattern on the backrest. Brass studs secure the leather to the wooden frame, and golden fringe embellishes the bottom edge of both the seat and the backrest. The arms are straight, padded with leather to match the seat. The legs of the chair are connected by a rectangular frame, providing stability and support, and intricately designed cross-stretchers add a decorative touch to the lower part of the chair.
