Hannah Rejecting the Reproaches of the Prophet Eli

after Rembrandt van Rijn

National Gallery of Art

This drawing shows two individuals across a table from one another. One person is seated in a chair on the left side of the drawing. This person has their back towards us, their face obscured. They have shoulder-length hair and wear a small hat and a long-sleeved garment. Across the small table, another person stands in the center of the drawing, facing the left. This person is leaning one arm on the table and raising their other arm to point at the sitting person. They wear a tall hat or head-covering with two distinct points and a veil draping down around their face. They have on a long, draped dress. An empty chair is behind them, near the bottom right corner of the print. There seem to be some papers or an open book on the table between them, and some lines on the left side suggest walls. The rest of the background is blank, beige paper.
