Four Soldiers

Master MZ

National Gallery of Art

This is a print of four people. To the left of center is a person holding a long sword at their side, with a cloak billowing behind them. On the far left, another person seems to lean on a long spear. A person to the right of center has their back to us and holds a large drum, and on the far right another person plays a long, flute-like instrument. All of the people seem to wear doublets with puffed sleeves, tight-fitting breeches, and feathered caps. The two people on the left have beards, while the two on the right are bare-faced, and they all have pale skin. The setting is outdoors, with a hilly landscape in the background and rocky ground beneath the people's feet.
