Christ in the Tomb with Two Angels

German 15th Century

National Gallery of Art

The image shows three figures mainly displaying their upper bodies. The central figure is seated, leaning against the support of two other figures on either side. The central person has long hair, a beard, closed eyes, wears a crown of thorns, and shows red marks on his body. His torso is bare with fabric around his waist. On the left and right are two angelic figures with long hair, big colorful wings, and one in a robe with patterns. The angel on the right has a hand raised. The background features architectural elements like pointed arches and stained-glass windows.
