Theodor de Bry, after Sebald Beham

National Gallery of Art

This is a print of a man holding a child, surrounded by clouds. The man is turned slightly towards the right, with light skin, a beard, and a wide-brimmed hat. His chest is partially covered by a garment that drapes off one shoulder and is tied around his waist, and his legs are bare. In one hand he holds the child, and in the other he holds the handle of an enormous scythe, the blade of which curves down from the left towards his feet. Sitting on the ground to the left is a goat, and on the right is a man with what appears to be a scaly tail, who pours out a jug of water into the bottom right corner of the print. Rays of light emanate from around the central man, and he is surrounded by swirling clouds. There is a curling banner with "SATVRNVS" written above the figure and the text "AVREI SAECVLI PRINCEPS" below.
