Wenceslaus Hollar after Hans Holbein the Younger after Abraham van Diepenbeeck

National Gallery of Art

This is a drawing of an allegorical scene with classical architecture and skeletons. In the central part, there is a scene framed by wooden beams. Skeletal figures are on either side, one gesturing towards the central figure. Symbols of mortality such as an hourglass, a scythe, and skeletons are present. The drawing is detailed with columns, floral arrangements, candle holders, and a Latin inscription. The bottom section shows more skeletal imagery in a memento mori theme, similar to Hans Holbein's style.
