Child's Grave with Wooden Cross - Bottle Decorations

Majel G. Claflin

National Gallery of Art

The image shows two large green plants and a wooden cross extending from a mound of earth, enclosed by upturned colored bottles forming a circular border around the mound. The color palette includes greens, browns, and a hint of blue and gray. Positioned centrally, the plants occupy the middle of the circle, while the cross is placed slightly to the right with the bottles forming a neat perimeter around the mound. The earth itself is rendered in muted tones of brown and gray.
