Penitente Santo Entierro or (Saint in Earth)

Eldora P. Lorenzini

National Gallery of Art

This is a painting of a figure lying down in a wooden coffin-like structure. The figure is anatomical, with visible muscles and ligaments, and rests upon a pink patterned fabric. The framework is made of finished wooden planks, intersected by turned spindles, creating a cage-like enclosure. The figure's face is partially preserved. Below the structure, there is handwritten information about the piece, including dimensions, the title "Penitente Santo Entierro," and the name of the executor, Eldora P. Lorenzini, dated June 27, 1937.
