Fork and Ladle

Rex F. Bush

National Gallery of Art

The image depicts a large, dark-toned ladle with an ornate handle positioned horizontally along the lower portion, and a long, slender two-pronged fork above it. The fork also has a decorative end. The color palette consists mainly of dark browns and blacks against a light, neutral background. Central to the composition, between the fork and the ladle, is an inset illustration of a similar fork in a smaller size. The objects are presented centrally in the composition, with the larger fork and ladle parallel to each other, while the small illustration is equidistant between them.
