Albert VII, Archduke of Austria

Pieter de Jode II after Sir Peter Paul Rubens

National Gallery of Art

The image depicts a man shown from the waist up. He is slightly turned to his right, looking directly at the viewer. He has a nose, beard, mustache, and neatly combed back hair. He wears a fur-trimmed cloak, a ruffled collar, and a chain with a medallion around his neck. His right hand rests on a cane or scepter held vertically. Adjacent to him on a table draped with cloth, there is an ornate crown. The background consists of a rectangular border with hatched lines. An inscription in Latin is at the bottom of the etching.
