The image shows two children, a boy and a girl, depicted from about the knees up. The boy is on the left, standing with his body slightly turned to the side but his face looking forward. He has shoulder-length hair with a center part. He is wearing an ornate, long-sleeved garment with a lace collar and cuffs, and buttons down the front, and a sash around his waist. Beside him is a drum, and he holds a drumstick in his hand. The girl on the right is also standing with her body slightly turned to the side but facing forward. She has curly hair styled into ringlets, framing her face, and she wears a similar ornate dress with a large lace collar and cuffs, adorned with bows and a decorative belt. She holds a branch with fruit and an object that appears to be a fan. Both children wear necklaces, and the fabric of their clothes is richly detailed. They are in front of a large carved column, covered by heavy drapery, framing a view behind them of a waterfront scene with a large castle or palace, ships in the water, and clouds in the sky. Above them, there are cherubs holding a decorative emblem or coat of arms. The drapery behind them ends in a scalloped edge above their heads.
