Mary, Princess of Orange

William Faithorne after Sir Anthony van Dyck

National Gallery of Art

The image shows the upper half of a woman's body, from the chest up. She is slightly turned to her left, looking directly at the viewer. She has a youthful face, large eyes, curly hair falling around her shoulders, and is wearing an off-the-shoulder gown with elaborate fabric. She wears a pearl necklace and a decorative brooch. The background consists of an intricately engraved oval frame with a textured pattern. An inscription at the bottom identifies her as a princess.
