A Nereid

Attributed to Giuseppe Mazzuoli

National Gallery of Art

The sculpture depicts a standing woman holding a draped fabric across her body. Her gaze is directed upwards and her face is slightly tilted to the left. One arm holds the long piece of fabric to her torso, while the other rests by her hip and is extended outward. She stands on a rock with a fish-like creature behind her feet. The sculpture is made of white marble and is placed in a light gray archway, resting on a pedestal.
