Pink Roses

American 19th Century

National Gallery of Art

In this painting, a bouquet of large, pale pink roses fills a green vase decorated with yellow floral patterns, which is resting on a wooden table with a rich, dark brown surface. Flowers extend outward from the center to fill much of the upper portion of the image, while the wooden surface stretches diagonally from the bottom left corner to the center. The pink roses are surrounded by green leaves and smaller groups of yellow flowers. The wall behind the flowers is a pale gray color.
