Male Nude Study

Anton Raphael Mengs

National Gallery of Art

This is a full-length drawing of a male figure from the back. The man is standing with his right leg crossed over his left. His left hand is on his hip, and his right arm is extended to rest on a tall block on the right, which he leans on slightly. His face is mostly obscured, although we see his nose and brow in profile as he looks to the left, and he has short, wavy hair. He has pale skin and is nude. The background is plain gray paper, with no other objects except for the block on the right.
